About Us
Founded in 1998 by Rev. Dr. John Mungai Ng'ang'a
Our Story
Rafiki AIDS Ministry is a registered non-profit organization founded in 1998 to provide holistic, long-term care and development support to vulnerable children, especially those affected by HIV/AIDS. Operating as a Child Care Institution (CCI) in Kenya, the Foundation goes beyond basic shelter to offer a stable, family-centered environment where children receive quality education, nutritious meals, healthcare access, psychosocial support, and spiritual nurturing.
Through structured mentorship and life-skills training, Rafiki equips children not only to survive difficult circumstances but to thrive as confident, responsible, and self-reliant young adults. Its integrated model of care emphasizes dignity, protection, and personal growth, ensuring that every child is supported academically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually.
In addition to direct child care, Rafiki AIDS Ministry strengthens families and communities through empowerment initiatives aimed at breaking cycles of poverty and vulnerability. By promoting education sponsorship, food security programs, community outreach, and values-based leadership development, the Ministry creates sustainable pathways for transformation that extend beyond the children in its residential care.

Rev. Dr. John Mungai Ng'ang'a
Rev. Dr. John Mungai Ng'ang'a established Rafiki AIDS Ministry to provide holistic, long-term care for children affected by HIV/AIDS. What began with just seven children has grown into a transformative ministry touching hundreds of lives.
"Every child deserves dignity, love, and the chance to thrive."
Organizational Context
Rafiki AIDS Ministry (RAM) is a non-profit initiative of Marafiki Global AIDS Ministry, Inc., USA, established in 1998 by Rev. Dr. John Mungai Ng'ang'a to support children affected by HIV/AIDS through comprehensive care—including food, shelter, education, medical support, and social services. Initially sponsoring just seven children, RAM has grown over the years to provide holistic support to hundreds of vulnerable children and their guardians, addressing not only immediate needs but also long-term social, physical, spiritual, and economic development.
Located near the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) in Muguga along the Nairobi–Naivasha Highway, RAM operates in a high-density area of Kiambu County that faces significant social challenges. Rapid rural-urban migration has increased population pressure, leaving many children orphaned or vulnerable due to HIV/AIDS, neglect, and poverty. Many are raised by aging grandparents with limited resources, while others face risks of abuse or juvenile delinquency. RAM's programs respond to this critical need by providing protection, care, counseling, healthcare, education, and vocational training empowering children and youth while improving the living standards of their guardians and surrounding communities.
